The Detroit FBI SWAT and The Michigan Chapter of the FBINAA are pleased to announce they are hosting a Basic Police Sniper-Observer Course at The Lab Training Center, Osseo, Michigan from May 4 – May 8, 2026. Check-in will be on the morning of May 4, 2026, at 10:00am.
The course will focus on shooting fundamentals, weapon and telescopic systems, ballistics, camouflage, stalking techniques, and positional shooting.
Required equipment for the course includes a scoped rifle capable of MOA accuracy; 500 rounds of match grade service ammunition; and eye and ear protection. A complete list of required equipment will be provided to each candidate upon acceptance into the course.
All candidates must be in good physical condition and be an active member of their departments tactical team (SWAT, ES, etc.).
The cost per student will be $800 which includes lodging, range fees, and class materials. Class size is limited to twenty-four (24) students and will be filled on a first-come-first–serve basis. If lodging is not required (local students or departments wishing to make their own lodging arrangements) the cost will be $500.
Note the change in venue for this year. Meals are no longer covered in the cost of the course. Lodging is a bunkhouse onsite at The Lab Training Center. A full kitchen, lounging areas, and laundry facilities are available onsite. The Lab Training Center offers better facilities/ranges, no restrictions on calibers, and more flexibility than previous training venues. Although there is a slight cost increase due to the change in venue, it will facilitate a more efficient and effective use of training time. This will result in the ability to cover topics more in-depth and provide additional instruction.
The deadline for registration is March 1, 2026. No money or registrations will be accepted at the door. No refunds will be given after March 15, 2026. Once accepted into the course registration and payment information will be provided.
